We are still working on securing field space and are looking for locations in west Wilson County. If you know an organization that may have available space, please reach out to us at wilsoncountyyouthlacrosse@gmail.com. Warm introductions — or even just a "Have you checked out this place yet?" — are all welcome!
As a non-profit organization, we intend to keep the cost as low as possible in order to fund operations — including field space, insurance, equipment, referees, and more. The cost per season will be roughly in line with other local youth sports leagues. Our sponsor relationships directly help us keep fees affordable for every family.
Players will need a lacrosse stick, a helmet, gloves, shoulder pads, and arm guards. We are currently working with equipment manufacturers to bundle all necessary equipment at the best possible price, so watch for more details on that front.
Wilson County Youth Lacrosse will offer leagues for 1st through 8th grade. Initially, groupings will likely be 1st/2nd, 3rd/4th, 5th/6th, and 7th/8th grade. We expect strong growth after the first season, at which point we may shift to age-based groupings to create more competitive divisions.
Yes. While we will focus on boys lacrosse for the first year, girls who would like to play are more than welcome to participate on a co-ed team. As the league grows and more players join, we plan to establish separate boys and girls leagues.
Lacrosse is a contact sport, and while that contact is a permitted part of the game, injury rates in youth lacrosse are about half that of tackle football — and lower than girls' soccer and boys' wrestling, and only slightly higher than soccer and basketball overall.
Wilson County Youth Lacrosse is committed to teaching players the correct fundamentals that allow the game to be played safely, and to ensuring that all referees have the proper training to enforce the rules. There will be zero tolerance for unsafe or unsportsmanlike play.
Yes! The league hopes to hold 1–2 multi-day camps as well as a handful of open gyms (1–2 hours each) before the season starts, so kids can experience the game with no pressure. Times and locations are still to be determined, but all of that information will be shared on this website, our social media channels, and through our email list once those dates are set.
